I think if you limit characters you change limits for cities back to original status. This way its fair across the board.

Outpost - Requires 10 citizens and grants a city radius of 150m. At Rank 1 the city is allowed to have Small Gardens placed.
Village - Requires 20 citizens and grants a city radius of 200m. At Rank 2 the city is allowed to have a Bank, a Garage and Medium Gardens placed as well as player-placed Cantinas; you can also begin to set taxes at this level.
Township - Requires 35 citizens and grants a city radius of 300m. At Rank 3 a Cloning Facility and Large Gardens may be placed as well as player-placed Hospital.
City - Requires 55 citizens and grants a city radius of 400m. At Rank 4 a Shuttleport may be placed as well as player-placed Theaters.
Metropolis - Requires 85 citizens and grants a city radius of 450m.

I voted 3 but would be fine with 5.

Why would they increase the amount of citizens needed at the same time as they are reducing the number of citizens available by getting rid of alts? The two actions would compound on each other and most cities would lose their shuttleports. The idea of having to drive to every player city is not so appealing to me, especially the more remote ones.

I voted 5, as I feel it would move the game to feel more like live with more "specialized" players. But my only problem with changing from 10 to 5, is how would it be done?

You're not making any sense. So you want them to decrease characters, but not the number to make cities?? How is that fair? In one sentence you're complaining about ruining the economy yet you're ok with having a city. So...if I'm understanding this correctly your ok with decreasing the characters, but not your city? Because I'm almost 99% sure that Minoc isn't comprised of accounts with just 3 character accounts. Just trying to wrap my head around everyone's intentions. I'm not complaining about lots, If they want to reduce them by all means.

PS- Your monopolizing the economy by making me come visit your "crafting only" city when everyone else gets slapped down because we haven't been here as long as you.

Both of these actions have the same effect:

1. Reducing the number of character slots available
2. Increasing the number of citizens required for city levels

Enacting one of these by itself is fine, but doing both of them at the same time is a horrible idea. If both of these happened at once, almost every city on the server would immediately drop below City and lose its shuttle port. There are not enough players on the server to use these city requirements, unless we want to be stuck driving 5-10km across planets.

Shuttle port currently requires 30 citizens. If the character slots are reduced some cities may lose their shuttle ports, but they can get more citizens. If the shuttle port requirements were then changed to 55, good luck...

Not sure what you're implying here. We set up a crafting city for everyone to use if they so desire. What exactly are we monopolizing? Just because we are a research center with a crafting house doesn't mean everyone crafts here. In fact, I've only seen 10-20 unique people here at the most.

Also, I've only been playing for a month. Others have been around for nearly 4 months and are much more established than I am.

I've never told people they're not allowed to move into the city. And this thread is not the place to discuss this. If you want to talk to me about this issue, then talk to me in game. I'd be perfectly fine with having 3/5 characters total. But we might need to wait to reduce characters until the Transfer Structure is fixed. :)

Thats cool, I get it and I'm done debating about it. It's Ed's show and whatever he decides is final and I'm good with that.

Well its been a great debate and I'm just a small fish in a big pond. I love this game and the community and whatever happens.....happens just hope we hear about it sooner then later. I get everyone's POV, but like everyone in this world everyone has there own opinion and I'm glad we all shared them.

Bottom line is if things change and I don't like them, "I don't have to stay", just wished character slots would've been chosen before launch. If you guys didn't want 10 you should've said so from the beginning.

Bottom line: Five characters is fine, but don't cut down lots too...keep each character with a separate number of lots.

As a roleplayer, and someone who eventually hopes to help RP grow on the server, I'm fine with a limit on the number of characters. However, severely limiting lots throughout the entire account becomes a problem. I want a house for each of my toons. I also want to set up purely RP venues for my toons. In our old city on Starsider, in addition to each toon having a house, we had a mall for shopping and vendors (with a built in restaurant), a nightclub, a zoo/bestiary, a theater, a couple of cantinas, a CorSec office (with a jail)...you get the idea. And then on top of that I had my lone crafter, an armorsmith. I ran three accounts, six characters total, though two were actually the same character (one was pure entertainer, the other was a combat version of the same toon), purely so I could run the roleplaying stuff. In doing this, I was adding player-generated content and story for all to enjoy (that's sort of my "thing," and I enjoy it). So please don't limit lots across characters.

A proposal: If you want, give each account a quid pro quo...for voluntarily limiting the account to five toons, perhaps the player gets some kind of benefit. A rare vehicle, or a bunker, or increased building storage...you get the idea (ideally something they can't lose through random idiocy). Those that are grandfathered are grandfathered the whole way...keep all 10 toons and enjoy, but you don't get the benefit. Those that choose to go down to five get the benefit.

EDIT: This would be a limited time offer. Once finally implemented, new accounts are simply limted to five toons without the benefit.

I already stated my reasons for voting 3, and I think they're good reasons. Ultimately, if it ends up 1, or 15, I'll stay.

What I don't want though, and one of the only ways I would actually consider leaving, is if we lower the limit but let those who already have 10 characters keep them. That is a surefire way to hand over the entire economy to a handful of players. It WILL be a terrible thing for the longevity of the server.

If you aren't willing to take away a few of the toons from those that have 10 already, do nothing.

That doesn't actually help you. *Every* currently existing account would have the option: keep the ability to create up to 10 toons, or limit yourself to 5 toons for some other benefit.

Can you expand upon this please? I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing, I just want to make sure I understand your concern.

Okay, you have John. John has 10 characters right now. He uses those characters to get a foothold in the armor and weapons market. He has an armorsmith, a weaponsmith, a smuggler for slicing, a chef, a ranger for collecting animal parts and a main combat toon. The other four he uses for lots to collect resources.

Now we lower the slots to 5 and allow John to keep his 10.

Jim now joins the server and is only allowed 5 slots. As long as John is active and puts in the work to maintain his empire, Jim will never be able to get a proper foothold in to compete with John.

Not to mention the damage that would do to the population growth of the server. "Hey, has anyone tried Awakening? They have a unique jedi unlock and a close pre-cu experience."

"Yeah, but I heard the people who got on the server in the first few months were allowed 10 character slots and there's no way to get that many as a new player"

I know if I heard that when I was looking for a server I might have moved on and looked somewhere else.

Okay, I understand your concern better now.

So what would you propose as compensation for those players who are going to lose characters in which they've invested time and resources?

I'm kind of a hardass, so if it were up to me I guess I'd say nothing, as they aren't entitled to anything on a free emulated server.

But since people seem so concerned about it, if I had to come up with something on the spot I think a fair gift for their time would be to fastforward their vet reward status so they could pick two or three gifts?
