Does each box in the slicing tree increase mission payout?
Does M Smug get better payouts on Terminals than say Novice Smug with just the first box?
I understand that M Smug gets better slices on gear than Non Master.

It does not. The 1st box is for slicing terminals. The remaining 3 are for slicing armor and weapons.
