Hey,

my suggestion is about the creature resource life span. I kept track at least of the carni, avian and herb meats on every planet for a few weeks now and i have to say, the lifetime span is big. Alot bigger then i remember it to be. To big, imo.

From what i see its somewhere between 7 days and 25 days. Yes, 25 was the maximum i had in the past ~6 weeks. And to make it even worse it seems as there is no 'maximum' (like most respawn after 12-16 days, just a few a bit later or ealier). It seems to be random in this timeframe of 7-25 days. This means that you have to go out and check for a new meat spawn on 18 of 25 days of a potential resource life span. In real its a bit less, because not every resource hits the maximum, but still its at least every second day statistically. For all 10 planets, on each of the 6 types of meat (if you want to keep track on all). For Hide and Bones it might be the same, i guess... I didnt keep track, the meats were already enough work and felt like an extra job. ;)

So my suggestion would be to narrow the life time span of 7-25 days to somewhere in the middle, like 12-19 with a maximum at 15. This would make life alot easier to dedicated rangers, who most likely don't have the time to travel around 2 hours a day to just get new (or more like, old ;) ) meat samples. Remember: Rangers don't have interplanetary survey droids, which are a great help to have an overview about new resource spawns. In the end, this would mean, that you most like just have to get a new sample for a specific meat on a single planet on 1 of 4 days (in the mean), not 1 of 2 days. I guess this would still be enough to do, so even with narrowed life time spans for creature resources, rangers would have enough to do :)

Additionally i don't think there'd be an impact on the economy much. Neither in a good way, nor in a bad.

Thoughts?

Traditionally (in live) creature resources last from 6 to 22 days. I have only been here 2 months but I have not seen anything more than 22 days yet. There is also a couple of very helpful collaborative sites that are in use. Galaxyharvester.net and I believe swgcraft.com (might have the url wrong, but google will help you) is still up for the emus. These sites mean that one person doesn't have to spend all their time tracking any resource, all the players input what they see in a cooperative way.

As far as I can see, Awakening adheres to the same resource programming as live did, and resources are a complete 'minigame' in itself just as it was on live.

Good luck finding current spawns for Creature Mats on Galharvester. If works well for Minerals, Chemicals and Gas, thanks to a few people who add regularly. Already Flora is so outdated that i gave up on these after adding them daily for like 3-4 weeks. Now its mostly outdated again. Which is all fine, imo. Thanks to survey droids people can track those themselfs easily.

For creature its different, its even more outdated then flora. I think this is mainly due to the reason that the community is alot smaller then it was on live and is on the emu test server. And additionally there are no survey droids to help track. So less people, more work for the few that wanna track... means even less adds to galharvi. To a point where its almost useless for some resources (mainly creature).

To each their own (or your mileage may vary) I have not found things too outdated, and when I do then I make the effort to add things to fill the gaps. Usually as I'm doing other things I come across creature resources that I was not hunting. (random aggro and harvest droid auto harvest).

Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that Awakening has not changed the harvest system from what it was in live, and as a 'hardcore' (ha ha) server without xp bonuses or easy mode jedi, I wouldn't expect them to change it.

Also, shortening the time the creature resources are available would (imo) just make the problem worse, and it harder for rangers to fill contracts. If you are tracking all of these resources, are you helping the server and entering them into the offsite databases? Have you considered the 'easy mode' of using a 'free resources' deed to check what has spawned where? That was the most common method back in live, to be honest.

Well, maybe you wanna check the username of the guy who added a good chunk of the top mats in the past weeks. Maybe that answers the last paragraph. :)

To your advise to just add all i track: No thanks. 1-2 Hours a day are enough. If there would be a reliable collective to do so, i would take a planet... but all? No thanks.

Add: About the contract problem... i guess it would not be harder. It would be more encouraging to actually look for new stuff and therefore make it more likely that it is found early (and added, if its worth it). So there would be the same amount of time to gather, it would just consume less time to track and be more in line with surveytool-mats, which are in comparison alot faster to track.

I know I don't update GHARV as much as I should. I don't go out there and harvest like some of the dedicated rangers. I'm of two minds about this.

Firstly, some insect meat is ridiculously hard to find in large amounts, even if you're a ranger. You really need that long window to get as much as you can.

The second part of me says, when it's a crappy spawn, I wish it would shift out into something better sooner.
