I see and field this question a lot in game, and I thought I would clarify and expand upon it.

Whenever you are harvesting a creature for a resource a system message always pops up with “You harvested X resources from a Y, this creature was scrawny and unhealthy”. Or “fat and healthy” or “medium” or “skinny”.

What you have found is that at these coordinates, your harvest will be of a set amount based off of the healthiness of the creature, for THAT specific resource type only. i.e. Avian bone, or herbivore meat, or animal bones… etc. So if you find a fat and healthy spot for avian bones off of Voritors, it will be unlikely that it will also be a fat spot for the carnivore meat that also drops off of Voritors.

The order of health on mobs are this: Scrawny and unhealthy (baseline listed amount off of GH/ *1 multiplier), Skinny (*1.5 multiplier), Medium (*2 multiplier), Fat and Healthy (*2.5 multiplier). i.e. Say mob X has a 100 unit harvest in a scrawny spot… in a skinny that will be 150, in medium that will be 200, and a fat would be 250 units.

These numbers do not account for harvesting skill of the person, food, or droids. So, a MRanger with a 114 droid and +31 veghash will do significantly more units per harvest, and as previously discussed(http://swgawakening.com/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=5448) even more with another ranger nearby. The multipliers stay the same, and are added in AFTER the base harvest is calculated for all the previously mentioned factors. So, having another MRanger with you is roughly a 15% increase in units per kill.

It is my policy when a new resource is spawned to work my way around a given town to find the spots. When I do, I make a wp, i.e. Herb Med or Herb Skinny, or Herb Fat. Then take missions in that direction and rough distance and continue to map out my spot. Some spots can be tiny, or they could be like the talusian reptile off of Guf Drolgs, and we found a Med spot that was over 500m across. It was amazing.
Oftentimes the Med spot is surrounded by a skinny spot, or a fat is surrounded by a medium, but this is not always the case. Fat spots tend to be the smallest in size.

I hope this helps all of you fledgling rangers and scouts out there. As always, if you have any other questions about the Ranger profession, I am always available. Post here or hit me up in game.

Great post. You say that you check these working out from town? Are these high yield spots common enough that they exist around most towns or do you have to travel the planet quite a bit to find them?

Does this also affect milk? I assume it would, but there's no easy system message for it. You just have to check the yield as you get it right?

They are completely random. Typically within mission range of any mission terminal. Not sure about the milk. I was hitting fambaas for milk on a med spot for their meat and it was no different then on a scrawny. I really don't think there are milk spots.

The milk is not affected by creature size I have researched this in the past.

They are completely random.... but there are zones. Fat zones. Skinny Zones.

When harvesting, map it out. If you hit a fat or medium, only take missions in that direction. I've mapped out zones before and it's totally worth it. Fats are rare. But anything over skinny is worth pulling.

Do say 5 missions in a direction, then change direction.
