Chef (Food Crafting) XP

I'm a novice chef, but anything I create (outside of alcohol) gives general crafting xp. I've tried every recipe, both as practice and actually creating the item. I have the proper crafting equipment, and it doesn't matter if I'm in front of a crafting station or not. Only alcohol gives me food crafting xp...

Any ideas?

Only crafted items whose schematics are learned at novice chef or above will give you food crafting xp

For novice chef, these items would be:
Air Cake
Alcohol
Almond-Kwevvu Crisp Munchies
Blap Biscuit
Medium Food Additive Soypro
